Pavel Durov is a Russian-born entrepreneur and the founder of the global messaging app Telegram. He fled Russia in 2013 and has consistently opposed government surveillance and censorship.
Telegram uses end-to-end encryption to protect user privacy, and currently has over 1 billion monthly active users worldwide.
"They are all my children, and all have equal rights." In an interview with French political magazine *Le Point*, Durov expressed his desire to leave his entire fortune to over 100 children.
However, he clarified that the inheritance will not be immediately accessible: “They won't be able to touch the inheritance for the next 30 years.” He wants his children to "live normal lives and learn to create something on their own."
Officially, Durov has six children with three different partners. However, he has also donated sperm to fertility clinics in the past, resulting in over 100 children whom he considers his own.
This unique view of family aligns with his philosophy. Rather than focusing on “bloodlines” or “legal ties,” he emphasizes the responsibility of giving life and bonds formed through love.
Durov is currently facing criminal accusations by French authorities. These include claims that Telegram has been used for drug trafficking, child pornography, and fraud, with insufficient moderation of the platform.
He strongly denies these charges, stating, “Just because criminals use our app doesn’t make us criminals.” In the past, Telegram has consistently reiterated that its top priority is “freedom of communication and protection from surveillance.”
“My job comes with risks. Defending freedom creates enemies,” he said, adding that he has already prepared a will.
With massive wealth, global influence, and ongoing tensions with state powers, Pavel Durov continues to emphasize “living with humanity” and “respecting freedom.”
